REHACARE 2026: Mobility Begins with the First Step — Paravan Showcases Customized Mobility Solutions 

At REHACARE 2026, Paravan will present its 360-degree approach to personalized mobility—from the initial consultation and test drive, through assistance with medical evaluations and insurance providers, to customized vehicle and wheelchair solutions. Among the new products at the trade show are the German premiere of the VW New Caravelle Extended and a new electric technology concept for select vehicles with manual transmissions. 

Mobility doesn’t just begin with a vehicle. It begins with the question of what possibilities exist today—and with the courage to take the first step. This is precisely the path Paravan will showcase at REHACARE 2026 in Düsseldorf. On approximately 100 square meters in Hall 6, Booth 6C76, the company will present its comprehensive 360-degree mobility concept—from personal consultation and testing, through driver training and the selection of the appropriate technical solution, to assistance with medical evaluations and insurance providers, as well as individual implementation, instruction, and handover. Customers do not need to become experts in vehicle technology, driving aids, medical evaluations, or insurance providers themselves. The individual steps are combined into a customized mobility solution.

“Our 360-degree concept links the customer’s personal situation with the technical solution and all the necessary steps along the way,” says Luca Arnold, a member of the executive board at Paravan GmbH. “Together, we clarify the actual needs, examine the technical possibilities, and use this to develop a customized, long-lasting mobility solution—whether it involves a wheelchair, a vehicle, or a combination of both. We coordinate the entire process so that the customer has a dedicated point of contact and as little organizational effort as possible. The customer has the goal—we show the way.”

Mobility begins with the courage to try it yourself

For many people, the first test drive is the decisive moment. On the outdoor grounds of REHACARE, visitors can experience for themselves—under the guidance of Ralf Buhmann, director of the Paravan driving school—the possibilities that modern driving aids offer today . The test drive is not an exam you have to pass. It’s a first step toward discovering your own capabilities and figuring out which control system might be right for you.

A flexibly adaptable driving school vehicle is used: the Mercedes Sprinter, one of six driving school vehicles at the Paravan driving schools in the Pfronstetten-Aichelau Mobility Park and the Heidelberg branch. Thanks to its modular design, the vehicle can be adapted to a wide range of physical conditions and covers approximately 90 percent of the requirements for driver training. Equipped with the Space Drive digital driving and steering system, the Mercedes Sprinter can be configured with various input devices. This allows different control concepts to be directly compared and tested.

“Many people arrive at their first test drive feeling very uncertain and leave with a completely different perspective,” says Ralf Buhmann, director of the Paravan driving school. “There’s one phrase we hear over and over again: ‘If only I’d known this sooner.’ That very moment can be the first step back behind the wheel.”

Customized Solutions for Different Mobility Goals

The key here is the interplay of the various components—from vehicle technology and driver assistance systems to wheelchair accessibility. With the new conversion concept based on the VW New Caravelle Extended, Paravan builds on its proven and highly sought-after mobility solutions based on the VW T6.1 while simultaneously expanding its portfolio of custom vehicle conversions. The VW New Caravelle Extended is suitable for both self-driving and passenger transport and, with its lowered floor, expanded interior, and modern assistance systems, meets a wide range of mobility needs. Depending on personal requirements, the vehicle can be equipped with the Space Drive digital driving and steering system as well as various input devices.

New Technology for Vehicles with Manual Transmissions

Paravan is introducing another innovation: a newly developed electric technology concept for select vehicles with manual transmissions. This solution makes it possible to continue using a manual transmission vehicle for specific mobility needs without having to switch to an automatic vehicle. In doing so, Paravan is expanding the selection of suitable base vehicles for custom vehicle conversions.

Planning the Wheelchair and Vehicle Together

Paravan’s trade show presentation is complemented by its electric wheelchair portfolio. From compact children’s wheelchairs to models with standing, reclining, or tilt functions, all the way to the all-terrain PR 4X and the PR 50—which is approved for use as a driver’s seat—the company showcases solutions for a variety of needs. When an electric wheelchair becomes part of a person’s mobility solution, the wheelchair and vehicle must be planned together from the very beginning. Access, seating position, safety restraints, operation, and vehicle modifications all influence one another. Vehicle and wheelchair solutions are therefore coordinated with one another rather than considered separately.

As a service provider, Paravan also offers direct supply of electric wheelchairs nationwide. This service bundles consultation, custom configuration, supply, and maintenance. A dedicated contact person also assists with the necessary documentation and justifying the individual need for the wheelchair to health insurance companies and cost-bearing agencies.

Visitors can find Paravan at REHACARE in Düsseldorf from September 23 to 26, 2026, in Hall 6, Booth 6C76. Mobility consultants and experts in the fields of vehicle technology, wheelchair provision, and driver’s education will be available for personal consultations throughout the entire duration of the trade show. In the outdoor area, interested visitors can experience for themselves what individually tailored mobility feels like during a free test drive. 

On Friday, September 25, from 2:40 to 3:00 p.m. in Hall 1, Booth G47, Paravan invites you to attend the presentation “The Path to Individual Mobility—Guidance, Counseling, and Implementation” as part of the REHACARE Forum. Daniel Weber, mobility consultant and key account manager at Paravan, will provide a concise overview of key issues related to test drives, driving school, medical evaluations, insurance providers, and vehicle modifications. He will demonstrate how people can be provided with structured support on their journey toward a safe and individually tailored mobility solution.
